8 Interesting Careers You Still Have Time To Train For

Have you ever felt a bit unsatisfied with your job and maybe wonder if you made a mistake by choosing that particular career path?

You’re certainly not alone in this feeling. According to a study carried out by Mental Health America and the Faas Foundation, a whopping 71% of people in the US are highly unhappy in their current jobs and as a result, are seeking new employment.

So, even if you’re not feeling completely miserable in your job, it’s also good to know that you’re not the only one who feels this way, and as much as you might think you’re too old to be switching careers, there are a lot of people who are choosing to go down new career paths well into their 30s, 40s, and even 50s, so it’s not at all too late for you.

If you know that you’re unhappy in your job, but aren’t really sure what direction you should be going in, then we’d like to share some ideas for you below.

This can be especially useful if you’re someone who’d rather multi-passionate and has varying interests which cause you to feel pulled in different directions.

Of course, for some of these careers, you may require additional training or even have to find yourself going back to college for a couple of years to get the skills and qualifications you need in order to land a job in that particular field.

However, if you’re willing to make that sacrifice for a while, then it’s eventually going to pay off and will absolutely be worth it in the end.

#1 The military

Pretty much everyone knows exactly what the purpose of the military and armed forces is, but the great thing about this career choice is that it doesn’t just involve being on the front line when a war erupts.

The military is a fully operational organization that has countless areas and departments requiring all sorts of skills, from admin to nursing, and even cooking, so there’s pretty much a place for everyone who is prepared to be in the military.

Training to become a police officer in countries such as the UK only takes around 18 weeks, which isn’t far off the military basic training.

The main issues that stop people from becoming police officers are that they fail to pass the basic fitness tests, so it’s really important that you’re able to demonstrate a good level of physical strength and capability since you’ll likely be dealing with people in different levels from yourself.

Of course, training to become a lawyer will take you a significantly longer period of time. However, this is something that can still be achieved and can be an incredibly satisfying and rewarding career path, so it’s certainly worth the effort for many people if you’re willing to go for it.

#3 Nursing

Nursing is another field that often surprises people with just how varied it is. The thing with nursing is, there are so many different types and areas of specialization that people don’t really think about or know about until it affects them.

For example, although many nurses do work as an RN and will be in a general medical ward attending to patients using a high-quality bleeding control kit, some work in a more consulting and office-based role, some work in a cardiac or oncology unit, and others even work aboard cruise ships or with the military.

One of the best things about a career in nursing is that you basically have a job for life and it opens up so many different opportunities all over the world, so although it takes a few years to become qualified, it’s definitely worth it.

Teaching is a job that not everyone is cut out for and not everyone should be doing, so it’s really worth making sure upfront that you’re definitely the kind of person who’s suited to this job before you even think about going and training for it or working in a classroom.

There’s no doubt that teaching comes with its challenges, but it’s also a highly rewarding and satisfying career choice for many, so if you’d like to get started with it, then it will require some training for a few years, but much of this will be done in a practical sense, so you’re getting to work in live classes during your training.

Nowadays, marketing is a huge area for growth and potential when it comes to careers, and although it’s always helpful to have some background, and definitely an interest in it, there’s really, for the most part, no formal education needed, so you can easily switch from a completely different career and walk into an entry or mid-level position, depending on what applicable skills you have from your previous job.

In marketing, you’ll find different roles available, such as copywriting, content marketing, or even social media manager positions, all of which are incredibly interesting and varied in their own right.

A bit like marketing, sales are something that doesn’t actually require formal education, though it always helps, the main thing you have to have in sales is simply the ability to be good at it, and this is also something you’ll perfect over time.

If you’re looking for a fun, diverse, and fast-paced job, then sales could definitely be the choice for you to consider, and there are countless roles in this field all over the place as more and more companies are investing in their sales teams and looking to grow and scale through a better sales process overall.

If you’re at all interested in the travel industry, then a career working with an airline is a step towards that. Whether you’re working at the airport as part of the ground crew such as ticket sales or check-in, or are working onboard an airplane, then there are plenty of chances to travel and see different places.

Airlines and airports, for the most part, operate 24/7, and even if they’re not 24/7, they work very long hours and in shifts, so it can be quite anti-social to work in this area, but it also has a lot of benefits, too.

Such as sometimes you’ll have a few days off mid-week and can get things done, and of course, the main benefit is that you get to travel.

Working for an airline is a very fast-paced and quite stressful job, but it’s very rewarding and a lot of fun, too.

If you’ve ever considered coaching as a possible career choice, then now is the time to jump in. Whether you want to work for yourself or for a coaching organization, the opportunities in this field are huge and are only going to start growing.

The great thing about coaching is that it can be offered in so many areas, such as personal and relationships, business, health, finance, and many more.
