Owning a business can be a nerve-wracking experience.

You have to make sure you keep your customers happy while also managing the company’s day-to-day operations.

What many people don’t realize is that there are certain checks you should be making on your building every so often to ensure everything is running smoothly and safely.

1. Foundation

Look for signs of cracking or displacement in the foundation. If you spot any damage, have it fixed right away to prevent further damage.

2. Roof

Make sure the roof is in good condition and has no leaks. If there’s any damage or leakage, it can cause problems for the whole building.

If the problem isn’t too bad, you may be able to do some repairs yourself. Still, otherwise, you’ll need an expert, and they will probably want access inside your property.

Make sure they are reputable, and your employees know when these fixes will happen to ensure their safety.

3. Exterior Walls

Inspect the exterior walls for cracks, holes, and other damage. If you find any damage, have it repaired as soon as possible.

4. Windows And Doors

Make sure all the windows and doors are in good condition and properly sealed. If they’re not, you could be losing heat or air conditioning from your building.

5. Heating And Cooling Systems

Check to make sure the heating and cooling systems are working properly and that there is no damage to the equipment.

For instance, if there is an unusually high amount of condensation on cooling coils, this could indicate that they need replacement soon.

It’s better to replace them before they completely stop functioning. Also, make sure the filters are clean so the systems can run at their best efficiency.

6. Electrical System

Inspect the electrical system for any signs of damage or problems. Have any issues fixed right away to avoid potential fires or other hazards.

7. Plumbing System

Look for any potential signs of leaks or damage to the plumbing system. Plumbing issues such as burst pipes or drains can cause a lot of damage if left unchecked.

It’s always best to try and nip any potential problems in the bud as soon as possible, so you don’t have to deal with a full-blown emergency later on.

8. Exterior Surfaces

Inspect the exterior surfaces of your building for dirt and grime that can cause problems if not cleaned regularly.

Dirt on roofs often leads to leaks, so make sure they are kept clean. Signs of wear and tear may also indicate future repairs needed in different parts of the building.

Your exterior inspection should include your parking area and the road in front of your building. If you do see any cracks in the surfaces, they can be easily fixed with asphalt crack sealing.

9. Creepy Crawlies

Look for signs of termite infestation and take action if necessary. Termites can cause severe structural damage to your building, so it’s important to quickly address any signs of an infestation.

Look inside walls and ceilings for any evidence of rodent infestation or insect activity. Rodents will leave droppings behind and chew marks on wood beams and electrical wires.

Both should receive immediate attention from a pest control company before rodents become an even bigger problem.

Insects like ants, cockroaches, termites, bees/wasps/hornets all require different approaches to exterminate them. A pest control company will be able to give you the best advice.
