The end of the year is now in sight. You are probably already focusing on next year’s goals and how you can build on the successes of 2019 and drive your business forward in 2020.

Now is the time to identify all of those things that have gone well for you this year so that you can replicate and strengthen them next year, and then look for other ways to improve your business.

To help get you started, we are sharing with you 3 things your business should do more of in 2020.

#1 Networking

When you run your own business, the power of networking cannot be underestimated. You should be constantly looking for ways to network and develop relationships with people. You can just never tell where it might lead you and who might know who when you first meet and connect with someone.

Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know. You don’t know to look for it, you will not be taking the time to find out whether your business might benefit from a USD bank account, the latest accountancy software or managed IT solutions, so it is always a good idea to network with others in your area and industry as talking shop could help you to develop your business further by making new discoveries.

Along with attending networking events and meeting with others within your industry, remember that you can do plenty of networking from the comfort of your office. Social media is a great place to ‘meet’ people and build up your relationships.

#2 Team development

You are no doubt aware of how valuable your team is to the success of your business. They lie at its very heart and they are often the people that your customers see and talk to most. As such, it makes sense that spending your time working on team development in 2020 will benefit your business.

If you do not already have one in place, take the time to create a training and development plan for next year. Think about any training that will be needed for new initiatives, and then look at current performance and spot any knowledge and skills gaps that would warrant extra training and support. You could also organize team building events.

Have chats with your staff on a one to one basis to find out whether they have any areas that you want to develop next year and you can put a plan together with them. Upskilling your team and delegating more tasks to them will make your business more productive, along with boosting staff morale.

#3 Review and Recognize

When you run your own business, it can be easy to get caught up in every day or to always be pushing for more. However, it often pays to stop, review and recognize from time to time.

You are likely to have targets in place but they are always about asking for more. Make it a habit next year to assess how far you have come on a regular basis and work out why certain things have been successful for you. If you have had a strong quarter in a certain area, recognize it and celebrate it with your team.

What is you business going to do more of in 2020?
