Here’s How to Put Yourself First when Going Through a Tough Time

July 17, 2019 by Christopher

It doesn’t matter if you’re feeling crushed by your job, in the middle of a court battle or whether you have recently lost a loved one because it’s so important that you are able to put yourself first and that you also prioritize self-care.

These tips will help you to do just that.

Acknowledge your Feelings

If you spend all of your time trying to avoid your emotions, then you will only exacerbate them at a later date. It will also cause you to feel even worse.

The only way for you to break free would be to stop and face them. Remember that what you’re feeling is normal and it is a part of your healing journey.

The sooner you are able to recognize this, the better you’ll feel overall.

See past the Hardship

When you’re in a crisis, it can be hard to see any upside. If you want to get around this, it helps to try and visualize the future.

For example, if you have lost your job, then think about how you’ve lost jobs in the past and always landed on your feet. If you’re currently going through a court battle, remember that at some point, it will come to an end and that you’ll probably be okay.

If you are currently struggling with a  criminal case, then hire a federal criminal lawyer to boost your chances of coming out on top.

Prioritize Self-Care

Self-care is imperative if you want to survive a tough situation. You won’t be able to help other people if you are incapacitated, so take the time to treat yourself and focus on meeting your own needs.

Sure, you might not have time to go to the gym or even cook full meals, but that doesn’t mean that you should be snacking on junk food all day.

Keep protein bars in your bag, take the stairs instead of the elevator and even do some cleaning to get yourself moving around.

This will help you to relieve physical tension and it will also help you to boost your endorphins too.

Accept your Situation

You can’t control every single situation that comes your way. This can be hard to accept, but there are ways that you can try and help yourself.

Make a list of everything that you do not have control over.

This will help you to let things go because you have a physical representation of your thoughts, and it will also help you to prioritize other situations that you do have some degree of control over.

Ask for Help

You might assume that you can handle everything on your own, and at times you may even think that nobody else can help you.

This is not the case at all, and sometimes talking can be great therapy. When asking for help, try and tell other people what you need. For example, do you need someone who you can talk to?

Maybe you just need some support with the kids. Either way, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. In fact, it’s a sign of strength.
