It is so easy to fall out of rhythm with a having a healthy routine of eating well and exercising regularly when you make the move from studying at college to then going into the working world.
It can be even trickier if you are really lacking in motivation to do so. And then it can become a downward spiral when you’re eating badly, as it leads to a lack of energy, and then the cycle goes on.
So here are some of the steps that you can take to make sure that you are able to keep healthy as you work in a full-time role which can be a pretty sedentary life because as much as your employer should take steps to help you, you should be taking steps to help yourself.
#1 Move Away From the Lunch Line
One of the easiest ways to make sure that you keep healthy at work is to pack a lunch and then take it with you. It can save money too.
The reason why it is better is that you will have taken time to plan it out, and will be a healthy choice. If you go to a cafe or work restaurant, then you are likely to eat more emotionally, as you’ll just choose something that you ‘feel’ like having.
If you eat the lunch that you have brought, then it will mean just eating those things for the nutritional value, rather than for anything else. So it can be a good thing all round to bring your own lunch.
#2 Follow the Rules
When you’re in the workplace, there will be things that your employer will be doing to keep you safe at work, but you need to be responsible too.
So with that in mind, it is a good thing to stick to the rules and avoiding doing anything that could be hazardous for you. It is a good idea to think about keeping safe and wearing any PPI equipment, for example, otherwise, you would need to seek out the help of a personal injury attorney.
And if you are off work for any reason, then it isn’t going to help you to be your healthiest.
#3 Plan in Exercise
There is no getting away from the fact that the best and easiest way to ensure you actually do exercise is to make sure that it is all scheduled in. So make sure that you keep as organized as you can, so things like an exercise class can be scheduled in; you don’t want to leave your exercise up to fate.
Staying healthy can be hard work, but will be even harder if you’re not prepared to put in a little effort.
#4 Ditch Your Seat
Healthy living isn’t all about what you eat. And in an office working environment, one of the biggest killers is going to be your seat, as you are sat in it, barely moving, day in and day out.
Sitting for more than eight hours a day can increase your risk of developing something like type 2 diabetes by 90%, which is pretty crazy when you think about it.
So when possible, get yourself a standing desk and possibly a high stool chair. Then you can choose if you want to stand or sit, which can improve your health.
As well as a standing desk, you may find it useful to invest in a pair of glasses to reduce headaches and other eye problems. It is very common for office workers to suffer from digital eye strain, but prescription lenses can help counteract the symptoms.
Visit your optician for a check up and see if a pair of new glasses might be useful for you at work. Although glasses will help significantly, make sure you always take regular screen breaks to give your eyes a much needed rest.
