How Mezzanine Floors Can Help Your Business & Save Money

Assembly of storage rack warehouseAs a business owner who runs a manufacturing company, I know how important it is to keep a business running smoothly.  I’ve been amazed over the years at what can affect a business and cause them to lose money.

One issue recently that I’ve been dealing with was the available space my company has.  In the beginning, we didn’t pay much attention to this because we had a lot of space and the thought never entered our minds about how much room we were actually going to need.

So in this article, I’m going to share why space matters in your business, how much it could cost you, and then I’m going to share a solution that may be able to help you out.

And that solution is mezzanine floors – a smart way to manage your space.  A mezzanine floor that enhances your storage options.

Side Note:  I’ve been talking a lot about small business issues lately and how they can save money and if you would like to learn more about things I’ve done you check other articles I’ve written here.

Why Space Matters

When it comes to businesses, especially manufacturing businesses, space is probably one of the most valuable assets you can have.  The reason for this is because it is one of the most limited resources we have.

This is why you must have a strategy behind how you store things at your business or warehouse.  In the early days of my business, everything sat on the ground from skids to finished products.

However, this presented a huge problem for me.  When employees would have to move stuff from one end of the warehouse to the other we always had to deal with issues like having things in the way to waiting for others to move through a specific area.

The problem with this is that it was costing me employee time all because my factor storage space was not properly set up.  In fact, I estimated that not having the proper storage solution was costing me roughly an hour of wasted labor a day at a minimum.

That may not sound like much but when you add that up over a year that was costing me $19,000!  I don’t know about you but the last thing I want my business to do is throw money away.

On top of that if I can open up more storage space for my company it would provide me more room I have to do more stuff that I couldn’t do before.  So you have to figure that cost in as well.

When it comes down to it all businesses are leaving money on the table and this is such an easy one to fix.

Mezzanine Floors – The Solution To The Problem

So what’s the solution to this problem, to use the proper storage solutions for example Mezzanine Floor from WSSL.  I’ve also looked at other companies such as Johnston Equipment as well just to give you a few ideas.

Basically, having a mezzanine floor on your premises allows you to go vertical with your storage solutions and open up more space for you.

Doing this gives me a lot more viable space that never existed.  On top of that, I don’t have to rent out more storage from other places for my inventory.  That in itself has saved me a lot of money.

I’ve also found that with mezzanine floors that whether you’re a warehouse or a manufacturing business like me it allows me to keep things much more organized, which is also a big time saver.

Now I don’t have to have employees running around searching for stuff costing more money.

How Is Mezzanine Floor A Good Investment

In the end, when I consider the saved and added storage space with the mezzanine floors, to the saved employee time it’s more than paid for itself but I don’t look at it like that.  For me, I look at this all as an investment.

By spending the money to improve and invest in my business now I’m avoiding bigger issues down the road and making more money in the end and that’s what it’s really all about as a business owner.
