Stop These 7 Habits That are Ruining Your Skin

Radiant, clear, and dewy skin is something that many strive for, but not everyone can achieve skin success. Even if they try the lotions and creams available in the drug stores, they still find wrinkles, blemishes, blotches, and other flaws.

What’s the problem, then? One cause may be due to the daily habits that are ruining the skin. By breaking these bad routines, you can keep your complexion on track and enjoy beautiful and healthy skin.

Here are some everyday habits you need to stop as soon as possible:

You Go to Sleep without Cleaning Your Face

After a long and exhausting day at work, you may have the urge to hit the hay without taking care of your face. This habit, unfortunately, can be detrimental to your skin. Throughout the day, pollution, oil, and dirt can accumulate and result in acne breakouts and inflammation.

As much as possible, wash your face before going to bed. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer to get rid of the impurities on your skin. You could also apply a green tea mud mask, a skin care product that helps repair and protect your skin from further damage due to free radicals. The important thing is that you follow a proper beauty regimen before getting a good’s night sleep.

If you’re pressed for time (or don’t have the energy to wash your face), buy and use a facial cleansing wipe.

You Lack Sleep

Not everyone hits the hay when they’re tired. Some continue working late into the night, while others choose to stay awake past their bedtime.

The lack of sleep can negatively affect your skin health. While you’re fast asleep, the growth hormones inside your body stimulate tissue repair and cell regeneration. The repair process slows down when you don’t get enough rest, causing age-related issues, such as dull skin and sagging.

So get enough sleep for glowing and healthy skin. The Sleep Foundation recommends seven to nine hours of sleep for adults who are 26 to 64 years of age.

You Exfoliate Flaky Skin

Flakes and scales are the first indicators of dryness. Although using an exfoliant will slough away the loose patches, this rough treatment could upset the barrier responsible for moisturizing the skin. This goes to show that you need to apply the skin care products you buy correctly.

Instead of scrubbing away flaky skin, use hydration skin care products to soothe the dryness. Fragrance-free lotions, as well as creams containing moisturizers, like shea butter, cocoa butter and glycerin, leave your skin hydrated but not greasy.

You Use Too Much Eye Cream

Some believe that using excessive amounts of eye creams will cure the dark circles on their face. Too much of a good thing, however, is bad for you.

Overdosing on the eye cream can cause puffiness around the eyes. What’s worse, this skin care product can obstruct pores, which traps more dark pigments in the skin. If you’re going to use eye cream, get a pea-sized amount and scrub it gently around your eyes.

You Wash Your Face Too Much

Many think that keeping their face squeaky clean by washing frequently is a good thing. This idea, however, is bad for your skin. Over-washing can strip your face of its natural, essential oils, leaving your skin vulnerable to pollutants and other debris. Washing your face too much is the equivalent of over-exfoliating.

Make sure to wash your face in the morning and at night. If you get sweaty after a workout in the gym, cleanse your skin gently.

You Skip or Delay Your Meals

Some people opt to delay their meals or skip them altogether due to the busyness of the day. Foregoing meals, though, can damage your skin. The body won’t be able to repair tissues or regenerate cells if it doesn’t have enough nutrients, which you can get from the food you eat.

If you’re feeling hungry, don’t postpone your mealtime. Eat on schedule and make sure to choose foods that are great for your skin and body. If you need to meet your carbohydrate intake, for instance, include rye bread, quinoa, and brown rice into your diet.

Also, don’t forget to eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Foods, such as sweet potatoes, peanuts, avocados, and oranges, help your skin get the required amount of nutrients.

You Pop Your Zits

Bursting a zit using your fingers is a no-no, as this can result in skin infections and unsightly scars. If you want to get rid of a pimple, use a facial cream that contains salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.

Break these seven bad habits and your skin will thank you. By taking care of yourself properly, you’ll enjoy glowing, radiant, and healthy skin.
