Last year was a difficult year for most people and although we’re not out of the woods yet, there is hope now as vaccines begin to rollout.

If you’re looking to get your 2021 off to a good start and need to work on sorting out your finances and getting in a better position this year, then here are some ways to do it.

1. Remember You’re Not Alone

It might not seem like much comfort when you’re struggling financially, but it’s important to remember that not only are others going through the same thing you are, but so many other people have been there in the past and have found a way out.

There is a way out, there is hope and you can do it too even if everything seems hopeless now.

2. Get Advice

Start by asking for help. Don’t be ashamed by it, there are debt companies, charities, and even law firms such as Anchor Law Firm who exist just to help you.

There won’t be any judgment and you can guarantee that they have seen people in worse positions than you are and they’ll have the expertise and knowledge to help you get out of it. What’s the worst that can happen?

3. Live on Cash

Less and fewer people are using cash now, however, if you want to sort your finances out and also learn to be more frugal for the future, then it’s time to get back to cash.

There’ll be no confusion over debit and credit cards and what you can and can’t afford, as, with cash, it’s just straight forward. With cash, you either have enough or you don’t.

Once you start doing this, then you’ll think twice about what you buy because you’ll be able to see the cash in your pocket and you’ll know you only have a certain amount to spend. Seeing it physically get smaller as well will deter you from spending it on things you don’t need.

4. Educate Yourself

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to educate yourself on money and how to manage it.

There are always ways to keep learning and to challenge yourself and if you educate yourself on money, you will continue to develop new money habits which will help you to stay on track when it comes to budgeting and help you to avoid financial problems in the future.

5. Set Goals

Know what it is you want to achieve. Is it just to get out of debt or are you wanting to go on holiday or save for a deposit on a house?

Whatever your goals are, it’s important to identify them and make sure that they are clear and achievable. Make it precise, decide on a figure, decide on a date you want to reach this figure by, and then set out a plan for how you’re going to achieve it.

Having something to focus on and work towards will help you in changing your money habits for good.
