Leather vs. Textile Riding Suits

Source

There is a great debate about which is better: leather or textile riding suits. The truth is, there are pros and cons to each option. The best way to figure out what type of riding suit you prefer is to try both options.

Here are a few things other riders like and don’t like about leather and textile riding suits.

Leather Riding Suits

There’s no question leather is one of the most desirable materials for jackets and suits. If you’re looking for a suit that could last a lifetime, leather is the only way to go. Here are a few more benefits a quality leather riding suit can offer you:

  • Exceptional protection
  • Durability
  • Comfort
  • Attractive look (especially when worn with professional motocross jerseys)

Leather suits are frequently used for racing and high-speed riding because they cut the wind better than textiles. However, the benefits do come at a price. If you’re dealing with a limited budget, it may be difficult to afford the luxury of leather.

Textile Riding Suits

Textile riding suits have risen in popularity over the last few years. If you’re looking for motorcycle gear that’s affordable and comfortable, textile suits may be a good option for you. Additional benefits of a quality textile suit include:

  • Maximum ventilation
  • Waterproof designs available
  • Easy cleaning (many textile jackets can be cleaned in the washer)
  • Large selection of styles and colors

With all of these benefits, it’s easy to see why textile riding suits are preferred by many riders. They do come with a few drawbacks, though. Most notably, textile jackets aren’t as durable as leather and will need to eventually be replaced. They don’t offer the same level of protection as leather, either.

Selecting a riding suit is an incredibly personal decision that can’t be made by anyone but you. Weigh the pros and cons of leather vs. textile in your mind and take time to try on multiple suits before making your final choice.

So what do you like better leather or textile riding suits?
