The Road to Becoming a Successful Real Estate Agent

April 10, 2017 by Christopher

Everyone wants to have a successful future with a lot of money and job security.

We struggle in life to try and find ways to secure a financially stable living and most of the time, it involves a lot of planning and study in order to achieve those goals.

One of the ways we do that is to start our own business, something that is in high demand and has enough longevity to become a long-term plan and not just a short-term goal.

One of those many business ideas that we often play with is becoming a real estate agent. After all, everyone buys homes, so why not invest in a market that will almost always be relevant?

Unfortunately, it’s a difficult road to becoming a real estate agent, let alone a successful one. But after reading these tips, you’ll hopefully get a good idea on how you can progress up that prestigious career ladder and gain financial stability.

Educate Yourself

There are many ways to receive an education in the property market.

For starters, there are state requirements that demand you take a test in order to prove your ability. Depending on where you come from, there are multiple college courses that you can take and they are usually set out in stages.

For example, Washington state real estate licensing requires at least 90 hours of education and then passing the broker’s exam.

You should contact local colleges to see if they offer you a course on real estate, but you have to keep in mind that applying to a real estate agent is usually a different matter.

You may need to take on an agency-specific course in order to be hired, or if you start your own business, you can avoid it entirely.

There are also useful articles like http://www.skyfiveproperties.com/real-estate-vs-personal-property-tax that will help you with both your studies and your understanding of the real estate market.

In short, combine both traditional studies and online resources if you want the best chance at succeeding.

Finding a Mentor

Source

As with most business ventures, getting your start is the simple part. Staying on top, however, is the difficult part.

Most business courses can only teach you so much and they won’t prepare you for the struggle that is the real world.

Trends constantly change and business practices are always shifting, meaning that in order to fully grasp the world of real estate, you need to find a mentor.

This should ideally be someone who works in the same agency as you so you can have regular contact, but you can also look for a mentor online that would be willing to coach you for a price.

There are articles such as https://investfourmore.com/2016/04/11/how-to-find-a-real-estate-mentor/ that will help you in your search for the perfect mentor.

It’s worth it in the long-run despite the possible expensive costs because up-to-date business advice is essential for anyone that wants to get their big break in the real estate market.

Building a Portfolio

The only way to get a solid list of clients is to work with as many people as possible.

Take on challenges and build up a portfolio so that you’re constantly adding more and more successful projects to your repertoire, then you can show it off when you’re approached by potential buyers.

Start small with buyers who are more relaxed and willing to explore their choices, then work your way up to more prestigious clients who only want the best.

Cheers!
