Thailand Digital Nomads, Retirees, Marriage and Student Visa Holders Insurance Requirements, Regulations and Recommendations

Essentially, we use insurance to access money in times of emergency, for health, property, or business.

Of all the various criteria we take into account while assessing an insurance company to protect what matters most, their loyalty to pay quickly within a coverage program is the most important to me. What is most important to you?

Expat Insurance Plans

Many expats in Thailand maintain a home-nation insurance plan. They are mostly related to a retirement program and benefit from their retirement. Access to great medical care “back home” is important to many. Thailand has great medical care, and its investments are substantial in growing the networks for citizen access.

Thailand’s universities are adding large nursing programs, and the Thai government is promoting traditional medicine to provide holistic care and treatment. The Public Health and Immigration Bureaus are advancing requirements for expat insurance Thailand long-stay and short-term visas necessitate documentation of adequate coverage.

Thailand Visa Requirements

As you know, some wheels turn slowly in Thailand. Some wheels, like immigration, can turn so rapidly that your appointment tomorrow is now irrelevant, especially during the low tourist season. Whatever you thought you knew about visa requirements last month, forget it. Banking requirements are now changing rapidly. Read up, be ready.

There are other insurance company criteria we apply when searching for coverage. I want a smart plan, a simple plan, one that is personal and fits my needs.  Access to a person in a time when automation is the rule is high on my list. Where do you place access on your priorities list?

Thailand Immigration Website

I mentioned being ready with current information regarding immigration changes. You can go directly to the Thailand Immigration website. Search for your applicable visa types and what you need to document, where to turn it in, and how to proceed to approval for visitation inside the Kingdom.

There have been local border disputes which may have driven the tightening of rules, in my opinion. There is more change expected in the leadership of the ministers, and this always drives reform of some type. I am only addressing the changes as they apply to expat insurance and visas.

In keeping as current as possible, you should know that all new visitors to Thailand are required to obtain approval and a digital arrival card or ECard prior to arrival. I am thankful for the steps Thailand is taking to modernize its immigration process; they are skipping generations of updates.

At times, the immigration process can seem bipolar and make it difficult for foreign investors to live here. Thailand has spent billions improving the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and creating growth in GDP by encouraging foreign companies to make products here for export. At the same time, some visa and work permit programs are very limiting for foreign skilled professionals.

Final Thoughts on Thailand

After all, it is their nation. Who they want here is up to them. I have held tourist, working, business, marriage, and retirement visas in Thailand over the last 11 years. I approach each visit with an open mind and a “Let’s see what is new” attitude every 90 days.

Insurance is a no brainer decision. You have it, or you have no brain.
