4 Things You Should Never Do After Suffering An Injury

November 17, 2018 by Christopher

The last thing anyone sees coming is getting hurt.  Unless you’re a thrill seeker, usually accidents occur out of nowhere when you least expect.  Depending on the gravity of the injury, you may find yourself wondering what to do next.

Panic may start to set in, or you may wonder what the protocol is for your certain set of circumstances.  Although it can be hard to try to remember a checklist of what to do during an accident, it’s vital that you have a general idea of what needs to happen.

If you suffer an injury, be sure that you avoid these mistakes.

#1 Fail To Tell Your Supervisor

If your injury takes place at your place of employment, you should always alert your supervisor as soon as possible.  Filing a claim will ensure your chances of being covered for receiving ongoing treatment for your injuries as well as determining your eligibility for workers compensation.

Failing to alert your supervisor could result in being covered for injuries sustained as a result of your job.  However, if you tell your boss right away, it will go on record exactly how the accident occurred.

#2 Refuse Medical Attention

Refusing medical attention will not only increase your chances of potentially hurting yourself even further, but you may be discredited later on if you try to claim you sustained injuries.

Whether your injury took place on the job, at a place of business, or in a vehicle accident, it’s crucial that you allow medical professionals to take care of your injuries.

Often people who have suffered an injury think they’re fine; however, the pain isn’t always apparent immediately.  In some cases, it may take days to weeks to feel the full effects of your injury. Therefore, it’s better to err on the side of caution.

#3 Lift Heavy Objects

Be sure that you avoid strenuous activity like lifting heavy objects.  Following an injury, you should give yourself ample time to heal.  Going too hard too soon could result in further injury. Depending on the nature of your injury, lifting heavy objects could even be fatal.

Always follow the orders of your doctor when it comes to how to care for yourself after getting hurt. Even if you think you know best, trust the professionals.

#4 Strenuous Exercise

Regardless of how much you may be passionate about running or other forms of exercise you may love to do, it’s important to get as much rest as possible following an injury.

You should take all of the time necessary until you know that your body is up for taking on an exercise routine again.

Pushing yourself too hard too quickly could result in injuries which make it impossible ever to do your favorite physical activities again.

What tips can you share about things you should never do after an injury?
