5 Things You Should Never Do After Drinking

Source

Most people can agree that alcohol is something that is usually more enjoyable in small doses.  The more that you drink, the more that you have a throbbing headache the next day and likely a few things that you wish you may not have done.

Since alcohol can slow down cognitive abilities as well as increase the urge to act on your impulses, there are a few things that you should avoid after consuming alcohol.  Here are the ones that you should avoid the most.

#1 Drive

Driving under the influence of alcohol is a bad idea for several reasons.  First and foremost, you can cause injury to yourself and others which sometimes results in fatalities.  Since alcohol slows down your reaction reflexes, you may not be able to make a stop quickly enough or be aware of your surroundings.

Additionally, driving under the influence of substances such as drugs and alcohol can lead to criminal charges which can affect your life for years. You’re better off taking a cab or asking a friend to be your designated driver if you plan on going out drinking.

#2 Call Your Ex

Even though your brain is telling you that you should spill your heart out to your ex and rehash over things you always wanted to say to them but never did, you should put down your phone immediately.

There is a high possibility that you’ll wake up the next day and regret everything that you said in a moment of weakness.  Wait until you’re sober to consider it again, and hide your phone from yourself in the meantime if you have to.

#3 Go Shopping

Money and alcohol generally don’t mix.  Since you are more impulsive under the influence of alcohol, you may make purchases which are frivolous and pointless.

Additionally, you may lose your cash or credit cards which can be a huge disappointment the next morning when you try to buy a morning coffee or pump gas on your way to work.

#4 Use Heavy Machinery

Using machinery which requires skills and cognitive abilities is a big no-no under the influence of alcohol.  The last thing that you want to do is lose a leg or an arm mowing the lawn after a couple of martinis.

As a general rule of thumb don’t do anything that requires coordination and focuses which can injure yourself or others.

#5 Go To Work

If you’ve been drinking, then you should definitely not go to work.  Smelling like alcohol or acting unreasonable in a professional setting is a fast track to getting fired and losing your source of income.

Even though you may be convinced that you’re okay, chances are that your behavior and speech is altered and that people can smell the booze. You’re better off not drinking if you have to go to work anytime soon!
