Big Announcement – The Stumble Forward Podcast Is Coming Soon

Stumble Forward Podcast 350X350Well as you can tell from the title of this article I am getting ready to do something that I have wanted to do for the last 2 years and that is start a podcast, yup that’s right.

I have finally gotten myself to the point were I can launch my very own podcast, The Stumble Forward Podcast.

So in this article I’m going to share exactly what this podcast will be about, why this podcast has taken me so long, and I’m also going to share my podcast intro with you as well.  Now as you can see to the right of this article I’ve also included a picture of the artwork I plan to use with this podcast.

Finally, if you have any thoughts or comments I’d love to hear them.  I’m always open to new ideas and any tips you might have.  Also if you think what I’m doing is great let me know in the comments, I’m always looking to see if I’m heading in the right direction with things.

Why Starting A Podcast Has Taken Me So Long

Among all the things I’m planning to get done this year launching my podcast is one of them and that’s why you may have noticed that I haven’t personally been writing much here on Stumble Forward lately because I’ve been so busy getting this podcast up and running.

And let me just say it has definitely been a long journey for me to get things up and running.  In doing this I face two huge hurdles.

The first being the technical issues.   When it comes to podcasting it’s not like you can just throw it up in a day like you can with blogging.  In fact I would have to say it’s a lot more indepth than that.

Now as far as the equipment goes I had most of it from when I use to play lead guitar in a rock and roll band back in the early 2000’s.  So I had things like the microphone, mic stand, and cables.

In fact the only real things I had to purchase was an XLR to USB Cable which is basic  cable that runs from my microphone to my USB hookup in my computer.  The other thing I had to buy was a Pop Filter which is mounted in front of the microphone and is used to cut down breathing sounds and mouth noises.

However, the big problem for me when it comes to getting this podcast going technically was not the equipment but rather being able record a podcast that sounds good.  In order to do that I had to learn about things like noise gates, EQ’s, and compressors to bring out the quality sound that I wanted.

Honestly I’m going to say that things still may not be perfect yet but at this point all I want to do is just get something out there and adjust things over time.  The truth is nothing is ever going to be perfect the first time you do it, which includes this blog, and at this point getting something out there is much more important to me.

I also had to learn more about the actual recording software that I was using as well.  Now at this point I’m using a free recording software called Audacity.  This software works really good and does everything I want to get a great sounding podcast but it did take me some time do get comfortable with it and now I’m getting to the point were I can record a track and do almost everything I need to do in order for it to sound great.

So I’ve eliminate the first issue for the most part but their is always room for improvement, in fact one of my next purchases to buy a new microphone to get a high quality sound and for this I’m looking at the Heil PR-40.

This is the same mic that a lot of top quality podcaster use from Pat Flynn to Cliff Ravenscraft, and when you listen to their podcast you can definitely tell it too.

Now with that said what is the other issue I am facing as a podcaster?

The second issue being mindset issues.  I would say this has been one of the toughest things for me.  When it comes to recording yourself whether it’s audio or even video it can be really easy to second guess yourself.

In fact, I’ve asked myself a thousand times, what could I possible say that other would really want to listen to?

The truth is everyone in the personal finance niche could start a podcast and we would all be able to share ideas from a different point a view.  I think it’s this trait that really separates us all from one another.

Even with all of that its has still been a challenge for me.  However when it comes down to it, I have to do what I did when I started this blog, and that is just get it out there and the rest will take care of itself.

Quick Tip:  80% of success is just showing up and doing the work. The last 20% is the dog fight where all the real competition takes place.

In the end I feel when you do the right things long enough success is inevitable.  The problem is you just have to do it long enough to see it through.

What This Podcast Will Be About

So what will this podcast be about?  Overall this podcast will be about helping people avoid costly financial mistakes.  This could be anything from scams to financial pitfalls.

My goal is to simply inspire people and make them aware of ways not to fall victim to their finances.  Back several years ago when I was working in financial services I met a lot of families that fell into some costly traps, and all of it could have been avoided if they would have been informed.

When it comes down to it if I could help just one person save money, avoid a costly mistake, or stop them from getting their identity stolen it would all be worth it.

Podcast Intro

Finally, last but not least here is the intro I promised in the beginning of the article.  In total the intro is around 55 seconds long but I feel it really sets a good tone for the podcast.

The audio I used was found over at Audio Jungle, which has a ton of different songs to choose from and finally I found a great voice over named James Scott over at Fiverr.com to do the vocals for me  for $15.  In total I think I had around $32 altogether to get my intro done but it was well worth it for being a shoestring budget.

So check it out and let me know what you think.

  2. Thanks Jim, I’m a podcast junkie as well, I think it’s become the number 1 way I consume content now. As for my podcast I’m really excited and scared at the same time but I’m glad to have your support.

  3. Thanks, Laurie. I got the voiceover on Fiverr.com for $15 which was a great deal when you’re just trying to bootstrap things. As for the podcast it’ll definitely take some time to get use to but just like when I started my blog it was tough just to write a blog post but now it’s really simple.

Also I just wanted to mention that I’ve been meaning to check out your blog and other blogs again but getting this podcast going has taken more time than I realize especially at first to just get up and running but once that is done it will free up a lot more of my time. Thanks for the support Laurie.
