Location, Location, Location: Choosing The Right Spot For Your Business

May 20, 2020 by Christopher

If you’re getting ready to start a new business, you always need to think about how to choose the right location.

A poor location can impact your ability to make a profit and leave you in a difficult position where your business begins to struggle, even in the early days.

So, how do you ensure that you get your location right? Well, there are a few options to consider here. Are you ready to get started?

Is It Near Transport Links?

Think about things like bus routes, highways, airports, and train stations. It’s going to be important that employees, customers, and clients can easily access your company. You can invest in a new development in the middle of nowhere if – and this is important – the transport links are there.

Look at the infrastructure because if the area doesn’t have the right support then there’s a reason the property is selling so cheap. It’s destined to be a loser. Take care of buying in an area with promise for the future because a lot of the time developments like this simply grind to a halt.

Of course, it’s not just about transport links. You need to ensure that you are going to be able to transfer data as well. This is another reason why the right infrastructure is important. High-speed internet is a must and deadlines should be avoided like the plague.

This can hit the productivity of your company hard.

Does It Have Security?

You definitely want to think about security too. You might have heard that businesses are less likely to be hit by a physical break these days and that is, to an extent, true. However, it’s certainly not the end of the story.

If your business is in a remote location then it will be more vulnerable to break-ins which could lose to you losing a lot of money. So aside from insurance that you have the right level of insurance cover, you should also take the time to check for other options like CCTV systems.

These may already be in place for some properties.

Can You Buy A Business Property That Needs More Development?

You can but you’ll need to do a little math first. Basically, you need to determine whether you’ll have to spend more upgrading the property than you will be saving due to being able to purchase it at a lower price.

Some work such as paving a parking lot is easily going to fit into your business, particularly when you use the services of a company like K&E Flatwork. However, others, such as fitting out the office could cost a lot more.

So, basically, it depends on your budget.

Better Off At Home?

Finally, you’re not wrong to think that you could be better off skipping the office completely and running your company from home.

However, you do need to be careful with this decision. It’s always going to depend on the type of business you are running. Some clients will expect you to be working from a major office.
