4 Office Traits Your Employees Probably Demand

June 28, 2017 by Christopher

Making sure your employees are happy in their work is one of the most central things that you as a business owner need to do.

If they are not happy, then this will quickly and automatically have a direct negative impact on your business and how well it is doing.

As it happens, most employees want pretty much the same things, so if you are able to provide those basics you should find that they remain pretty happy.

In this post, we are going to look at some of the essentials that your employees are probably keen on having. Let’s have a look and see how to keep them on board at all times.

#1 Respect

One of the quickest ways to drive employees away from your business is to show them a lack of respect. Most managers know this, but the truth is that it is often difficult to keep up with this form day to day.

Partly the problem is that people fail to show respect, and they do so completely by accident. To counter this, you should be sure to be as vigilant as possible at all times at work, so that you can avoid this situation occurring.

Make sure you speak to your employees in a way which pays respect to their basic humanity, otherwise they are likely to pretty quickly rebel against you and your business – and that will not bode well for you.

#2 Comfort

If your people are not comfortable in the office, this can cause a surprising amount of consternation, so be sure to do everything in your power to keep them company.

You might be surprised at how much comfortable office chairs are something that’s highly valued in the workplace. But you need to ensure you are providing the best chairs, tables and ergonomic products if you want your employees to feel at home.

The more comfortable and relaxed they feel, them more likely it is that hey will continue to produce the kind of work you really want to see, so this is likely to be hugely important to your business’ future.

#3 Appreciation

Everyone hates it when good work goes unnoticed – Don’t be that boss who ends up altogether ignoring the positive accomplishments of the people in your workplace.

Make sure you have a system in place whereby people can expect specific rewards for specific achievements. This gives everyone certain goals to work towards, for a start, but it also means that you are likely to get much more out of them.

Truly, when appreciation is a basic tenet in the office, everyone wins.

#4 Fairness

Finally, it is an absolute essential that you treat everyone fairly.

On a basic level, this means paying everyone at an equal rate for equal jobs. On a much more advanced level, it means that you should not do anything to favor one person over another for no reason.

This kind of behavior rarely goes down well and will lead to a negative workplace in the long run. Avoid it at all costs.

Final Thoughts…

As a business owner, I find these traits to be the best way to building a winning business.  No one likes to go to a job they hate and work for a boss that does not treat them well.  Now I’d like to hear from you.

Do you follow these four traits in your business?  I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Cheers!
