Running any business isn’t easy.

Getting off the ground can be a challenge, and a lot of work goes into helping things run smoothly. When you’re just starting out, there’s going to be a lot of work that needs doing.

Even after that, work can crop up that you won’t be able to avoid. It can be hard to keep things running when you’ve got builders in your work space.

With a little effort, you can keep the damage minimal. Here are some things you can do to ensure work doesn’t put a stop to productivity.

#1 Get Work Done as Quickly as Possible

There’s no denying work is going to cause disruption. The speed with which the work is done will dictate how much. Stress the importance of speed to your building company.

The less time your space is out of action, the better. It’s worth looking at companies that charge by the job, rather than by the hour.

That way, they have no incentive for keeping the job going. It helps to make life easier for builders, too. Ensuring the space is ready for their arrival will save time when they arrive for the job.

#2 Keep Noise to a Minimum

Renovation can be a noisy time in any work space. Drills and other machinery can make it hard to carry on functioning.

This is particularly the case in an office, where you’re making phone calls and staff need silence to think. Working in noise is never nice, and anything you can do to keep noise to a minimum will be a bonus.

Speak to the builders and see if there’s any chance they can save noisy work for days when the office isn’t in use.

Most companies will be understanding and try to accommodate the needs of your business. If there’s no way around the issue, try to reorganize phone calls around the disruptions.

It may even be worth providing ear plugs for your colleagues to ensure they can continue to work. It may sound strange, but a noisy workplace isn’t going to help anyone, and they’re sure to appreciate the gesture.

#3 Keep Things Clean

Another possible disruption is the mess building work can cause.

It’s important to at least try to keep things clean. In an office environment, you’ll be working with machines.

Leaving dust to fly everywhere could clog your computers and cause even larger setbacks. Employing a commercial cleaning company at this time will help you keep on top of things.

These companies aren’t just good during renovation work, either. A clean work space is a happy work space, so think about keeping a cleaner around in the future as well.

Final Thoughts…

Taking these small steps will help your business keep going through the stress of renovation. It may not be ideal, but at least you can lessen the impact.

Even with these precautions, you’re going to find things tough while work is going on. Keep the end goal in mind and remember that it’ll be worth when it’s all done!

So what are you doing to keep your work renovation process moving smoothly?  I’ve personally been going through this with my company and I would like to know what you are doing.  Feel free to share your thoughts and comments below.

Cheers!
