3 Ways To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone And Get Debt Free

A few years ago, I was in debt.  I was feeling the strain of all the payments until one day I had enough. I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided I was tired of living life one paycheck at a time, worrying if I would ever be able to get somewhere financially.

What Is Your Comfort Zone

First before I give you a few ways to step out of your comfort zone we need to define a comfort zone and decide what yours is.

A comfort zone is just basically what it means.  It is the place where you feel safe.  For example, it could be the people you associate with, the food you eat, or even how you spend your money.  You should know that when you’re in your comfort zone, you feel safe and when you’re out of your comfort zone you feel, well, uncomfortable.

Now that we know what a comfort zone is, what is your comfort zone?  To answer this question just look to your past.  Do you like to take a lot of risks or do you tend not to?  If you do then you are willing to go outside your comfort zone.

What you need to realize is that if you are scared to step out of your comfort zone, achieving a goal like paying off all of your debt will be a hard task to complete.  In other words, stepping out of your comfort zone is a risk that you must take in order to achieve your goals.

3 Ways To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone And Get Debt Free

  • Ask For Help.  Asking for help can be a great first step in getting debt free.  You can do this 1 of 2 ways.  First, you can talk to a family member or friend.  This doesn’t necessarily mean talking to your spouse.  Your spouse might be in the same situation as you.  Talk to someone who doesn’t know about your situation.  Second, talk to a professional.  Sometimes all you have to do is ask, and if they can’t help you, at least you tried.
  • Break Bad Financial Habits.  We all have bad financial habits but some are worse than others.  If you want to get debt free, step out of your comfort zone and only buy what is necessary.  The hard part about this tip is that habits are hard to break.  We may have become accustomed to spending our money in certain ways and might feel like we couldn’t live without them.
  • Do Something Right Now.  This is my biggest tip I can give you.  One thing we all tend to is say, ‘I’ll start tomorrow,’ or ‘ I don’t have time right now.’  Instead get started getting out of debt right now.  What is one task you can complete in the next 5 to 15 minutes?  It could be putting a debt plan together, setting up a budget, starting an emergency fund, calling a friend or professional.  By doing something right now, you will start to alleviate the pressure you are feeling right now to get out of debt.
