Hey everyone thought I would throw a quick post up here and share with you yet another scam that has become popular again. The jury duty scam. If your new here at Stumble Forward I’ll occasionally throw out a quick post on scams and things that aren’t going to help you get out of debt.
The worst part about this scam is they can actually use this as a form of threat to get money from you. Let me explain.
Here’s how it works. Someone will call you telling that you have to report for jury duty. They will then proceed to ask for you social security number. Now at this point some may give their number not even questioning the source.
Don’t do it!
At this point the scammers will attempt to threaten you by telling you that you can’t refuse to do it or you will have to pay a fine. The scammers will then ask for your credit card number to pay the fine for not doing the jury duty.
Again I have to repeat myself don’t give them anything. If you get this call they will sound very convincing but don’t believe them the county, and state will never ask for this.
Now, you may be wondering how would you be contacted if you actually had to do jury duty. They will send you a letter by mail. I’m not sure but it may be certified as well.
Getting ripped off by these scammers is a big deal so let everyone know about this and give this post a stumble or bookmark at your favorite social site to let everyone know this scam exist. To tell you the truth I’ve never heard of this scam before, so it wouldn’t be much fun to learn the hard way about this scam.
Finally, have you recieved a call like this? Feel free to share your story with everyone in the comments. Together we can work stop these scammers and make it a safer place for everyone.
Till then,
Chris
