Blogging: The Perfect Career For Creatives That Hate Being Told What To Do

Blogging used to be considered a fun hobby, but it’s now a serious career. Some of the most successful bloggers out there are earning six-figure salaries on a yearly basis.

It’s become the ultimate career for creative people that don’t like being told what to do. As a blogger, you’re free to write what you want, when you want, and how you want.

You’re not bound by rules or schedules that are forced upon you by people higher up in an organization. You are the only member of your organization and can do whatever you want.

As such, many people that grew up wanting to be journalists or have media jobs are now turning to blogging instead. In this piece, I’ll tell you a little bit about this career so you can see if it’s right for you.

Blogging Is Highly Competitive

One thing any blogger will tell you is that this career path is highly competitive. You’re not competing with others for work like you would in a freelance job.

Instead, you’re competing with other bloggers for web traffic and readers. You want to get as many people visiting and reading your blog as possible.

You’ll find that behind a lot of successful blogs is an SEO agency helping them improve their search ranking and gain a larger audience. If you’re up for a challenge, then this is a good career idea for you.

It’s A Demanding Job

You must understand that blogging as a career can be a very demanding job.

It’s not like blogging for fun where you can just post anything you want and not worry about how many people read it. With a proper blog, you need to post regularly to keep your audience interested.

This means coming up with new ideas and topics extremely often. Also, you have to write the piece, review it, edit it, and then post it.

You have to come up with click bait titles that grab people’s attention too. Your days can be filled with endless writing, editing, and idea searching. Don’t think this is a stroll in the park or an easy career, because it’s not!

You Need Thick Skin

No matter how amazing a piece of writing is, it will always get some negative feedback. There’ll always be someone somewhere that disagrees with what you’ve written or has some critiques to make.

As a blogger, you’ll be posting lots of articles all the time. As a result, you can expect to receive plenty of negative feedback – along with positive stuff too.

To be successful in this career space, you need to have thick skin and respond well to criticism. Take constructive criticism on board and use it to improve your blog. Ignore anything that’s purely negative and doesn’t serve a purpose other than to make you feel bad.

Don’t let it get to you, focus on the positive stuff and the critics that aim to help you out.

Are You Ready to Be a Blogger?

After reading this, you can probably gauge whether or not this is the right career for you. If you think you can handle it, then start your new career today and write your first blog post.

I’ve personally been blogging for over 8 years now on my own and I love the fact that I can write what comes to me and share what I’ve learned with the world.

So what about you, are thinking about getting into blogging?  I would love hear your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Cheers!
